Interior decorating and chandelier lighting installed by homeowners is becoming a very popular trend. Why hire a professional when you can do it yourself, with the help of magazines, books and television shows. And, with an increase in popularity of do-it-yourself projects, it isn’t just limited to decorating, but to remodeling as well. Many homeowners are realizing the money they can save by using their own creativity in decorating their own homes, and are taking steps to try it on their own. With that said, many people want to be able to do this, but are afraid of the end result, and so still hire a professional such as an interior decorator to do the designing in their home.
You can do it on your own, though, you just have to know where to start. One of the best ways to begin designing a room is to start with one major piece and work outward. If you have a centerpiece that represents your taste, it will be much easier to then find other accent pieces that match or accentuate the décor of the first major piece. One great type of centerpiece to start with is the light fixture. By beginning with what is often an afterthought in design, you will easily be able to create your own style and find items that keep a certain theme or décor style throughout the whole room. For instance, a large crystal or wrought iron chandelier acts as a major centerpiece for any room, and easily creates a starting point in design for you to accent with other furnishings. This type of centerpiece will serve two purposes: it supplies light to the room, and it also acts as a focal point for the eyes of guests, making it a wonderful design investment.
By starting with basic thoughts, such as what colors or styles interest you the most, and working from there, you will quickly find that you can decorate your own home, no degree necessary. Getting to know yourself and what you like personally will serve you will in decorating your home, because you will be able to reflect your own personality through your furnishings. This will make decision much easier to make, because once you have figured out what you like, items will catch your eye that will go perfectly in whatever room you are designing.
Not only are chandeliers a great centerpiece to start with, but lighting in general is important in design. You will want to consider the room’s purpose and provide enough light to fit the room. For example, a dark kitchen could result in bad meals or even injuries, while a bright bedroom will take away from the mood of the room. In rooms that vary in mood, such as living rooms or dining rooms, where a dinner can be a fun party or a formal get-together, you may want to consider lighting with dimmer switches. Many lights offer this selection, and this allows you to have one light fixture that will supply many different amounts of light, with the control at your fingertips. Or, you could opt for many different types of light fixtures in one room, such as a chandelier as well as lamps. This will allow you to use bright light when needed, or switch to the dimmer light fixtures for more mellow occasions.
By considering your lighting options, you will easily be able to design any room like a professional. Starting with one major piece, and working on the light fixtures, are the two main considerations when first beginning a design project. If you are lucky, these two goals can be reached in one fixture. If not, you will still be able to begin the designing process with ease because these two considerations will lead you on the correct path for decorating any room successfully.
And, if you are still nervous that it will not turn out like a professional did the work, look at this as a good thing. You could easily hire a professional interior decorator and spend a lot of money only to discover that the end result looks like someone else did it. For your own home, why not have your own special touch, the results of which will reflect you and your tastes? You know your tastes better than anyone, and if you follow your instincts, you are sure to find the perfect chandelier centerpiece on which to base the rest of the room.
